Titanium Pipe Overview
Titanium pipe is available in two major types:
- Seamless Pipe – Made from solid titanium billet, best for high-pressure or critical applications.
- Welded Pipe – Made from titanium sheet/coil; more cost-effective for general use.
Titanium Pipe Sizes
Standard Dimensions (per ASTM B861/B862)
| Size Type | Range |
| Outside Diameter (OD) | 6 mm – 600 mm (¼” – 24″) |
| Wall Thickness | 0.5 mm – 25 mm (Schedule 5S to 160) |
| Length | 3 m, 6 m standard; custom cuts available |
⚙️ Pipes are often sized by Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) in inches and Schedule (wall thickness).
Titanium Grades for Pipes
Commercially Pure Grades (Grades 1 to 4)
| Grade | Description | Key Features | Typical Uses |
| 1 | Softest CP titanium | Excellent corrosion resistance, weldable | Marine, desalination, chemical lines |
| 2 | Most used CP grade | Balanced strength & corrosion resistance | Heat exchangers, offshore, architecture |
| 3 | Higher strength CP | Stronger but less ductile | Aerospace, industrial piping |
| 4 | Strongest CP grade | High strength, good corrosion resistance | Chemical plants, hydraulic piping |
Titanium Alloys
| Grade | Alloy | Features | Applications |
| 5 | Ti-6Al-4V | High strength, moderate weldability | Aerospace piping, motorsport exhausts |
| 7 | Ti-0.2Pd (CP + Palladium) | Superior corrosion resistance in reducing acids | Chemical piping, pickling systems |
| 9 | Ti-3Al-2.5V | High weldability, medium strength | Hydraulic and aircraft tubing |
| 12 | Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni | Excellent corrosion in acidic and chloride media | Seawater systems, bleaching plants |
| 23 | Ti-6Al-4V ELI | Biocompatible, low oxygen/interstitials | Medical gas lines, surgical equipment |
